More precisely, we will focus on the question of what constitutes the self and personal identity, but not exclusively so, as these questions might be interlaced with psychological and social respectively collective aspects of identity. The seminar’s content and approach are imprinted by our own feminist and intercultural philosophical perspectives. Thus, we will predominantly read texts from non-European traditions - such as African, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, and Indigenous – and invite critical considerations concerning gender, culture, and race. In addition, we will scrutinize each of these approaches for their ethical implications, for the concepts of self and identity are connected to our actions, despite our occasional oblivion thereof.
